ICI Successfully Held “The 11th Shanghai International Curriculum Forum

The Institute of Curriculum & Instruction(ICI), key research institute of humanities and social science in university, held “The 11th Shanghai International Curriculum Forum:  School-based Teacher Professional Development” on November 1, 2013. More than ten experts in teacher professional development from America, England, France and over 200 scholars, graduate students, curriculum leaders and teachers from more than 10 provinces and cities in mainland attended this forum.

Prof. Cui Yunhuo attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Prof. Lee S. Shulman, the past president of the America Educational Research Association(AERA) and of the National Academy of Education. 14 domestic and international specialists and scholars gave theme reports of their own research background and shared the recent process and achievement of their research.

Besides plenary speeches, there were 3 parallel sessions of “Theories of Teacher Professional Development”, “Teacher Learning and Development” and “Teacher Evaluation and Management”.

On November 3, invited specialists attended round table and discussed with the scholars of ICI. Prof. Gu Lingyun introduced the 4-level teaching research system and its characteristics, and the introduction and development of PCK in China. Prof. Lee S. Shulman and Judith Shulman felt gratified at the application and improvement of PCK in China. The experts discussed on the problem of school-based teaching research and classroom teaching under different cultural background, and rethought the relationship between researchers and teachers on the front. At the end of the round table, specialists still had not given full expression to their views and showed willingness to communicate further.
